Ernesto Cárcamo Cavazos: Cascabeles

Cascabeles explores the timbral possibilities of the hi-hat within idiomatic and non-idiomatic rhythms and grooves. Six pieces explore a distinct performative approach to the hi-hat accompanied by electronics that react to the spectrum and amplitude of the instrument in real-time, all custom-programmed in Max/MSP. The electronics are thoroughly composed to highlight, complement, contrast, support, and accompany the hi-hat, nearly as a separate instrument, but all coming from the same musical material.

Special thanks to Regis Lemberthe, Daniel McKemie, and specially to Laure Le Fur for her support, patience, and trust in this project from beginning to end.
